For the traditional Afgani touch you can’t go past the Pamir Restaurant owned by husband and wife team Shahini Ahad (right) and Uzbekistani chef Alisher Azizullaev.

FIVE Star Pamir Restaurant is owned by Shahina Ahad and has been serving fine Afghani cuisine for the past 12 years along with a unique range of other dishes, suited to discerning food lovers.

The Dandenong restaurant offers a huge selection (40 varieties) including Afghani style traditional rice and sheesh kebab dishes along with their signature dish ‘Maantu’ – traditional Afghani dumplings – all of premium quality made from fresh produce.

Afghanistan’s highest mountain, Pamir adorns the entrance and sets the theme. The traditional touch is sustained with Afghani artefacts and paintings in the dining room. Diners can eat in the traditional style – sitting onPersian carpets and mats in a traditional room – or more conventionally at dining tables in either the main seating area or the private function room.

Before coming to the Pamir, top Uzbekistani chef Alisher Azizullaev sharpened his culinary skills in Europe.

I Shahina Ahad who migrated to Australia in 2006 with the family from Uzbekistan started first experience from one of the most popular restaurants in Victoria “Afghan Pamir Restaurant”. First one of my responsibilities was included kitchen hand, customer service and as well as cooking too. In our culture every single girl should learn hospitality and cooking from an early age. That’s why I cooked my first dish when I was 12 years.

In my 7 years’ experience I learn Afghani cuisine very quick because Uzbek and Afghan cuisine are very similar and also my father is from Afghanistan as well.

When i got married to my husband Alisher, Rahimi (previous owner of the restaurant) decided to pass over his buiness to me and he believed it is in good hands and we will look after his business for him.

Nowadays we have a lovely daughter, but I didn’t get any leave, still running the business with my family. I like cooking, I Like all of my customers and I’m happy to look after them.

Every year we are successfully participating in the Food and wine festival. Our restaurant is located in heart of the Dandenong: 195 Lonsdale Street, (Princes Highway) between “A1 Bakery” and “Jim Dandy Hotel”, first floor.
